Consultation for the treatment of Lines and Wrinkles
Our aesthetic nurse practitioner, Diane Plummer RGN (BSc) Hons Dip HE INP will take a medical history to make sure you are suitable for treatment. You will then be asked to sign a consent form indicating that you have understood the treatment and the potential side effects. On your first treatment photographs will be taken for your medical records. The area to be injected will be cleaned with an antiseptic cleanser, then using micro needles tiny amounts of botox will be injected into the muscle.
It does not remove wrinkles indefinitely, it is usually necessary to have a treatment every three to six months to maintain and improve upon the original results.
A treatment should usually take around 15 minutes. It is recommend you stay upright for 3-4 hours after the treatment and avoid any strenuous excercise for up to 24 hours.
Side effects can include a small amount of temporary bleeding or mild swelling which may occur at the injection site however this is only temporary. In some cases more extensive bruising can occur especially around the eyes but this is temporary and can usually be covered up with make-up. Occasionally patients may experience a headache after treatment and very rarely double vision. When it is injected into the forehead area, there is a very slight possibility that it may cause weakness of the muscle holding up the eyelid causing a "partial ptosis" or drooping of the upper eyelid, this is however very rare and can be improved with the use of eye drops that our practitioner can prescribe.
Nerve endings release a chemical substance acetylcholine, which transmits contraction information to the muscle. A type A botulinum toxin whose role is to temporarily block the release of acetylcholine. The muscle is then relaxed and the wrinkle is reduced.
Most people find the procedure relatively painless however if required a numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment. Immediatley after the treatment you may notice some redness and bumps around the injection point but these will usually settle within minutes. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure.
